This past Saturday I was hanging out in Freeman, South Dakota. The city park was filled with folks from Freeman and all around southeast South Dakota for the Rib Cook-off.

We had a great time as you can tell by the photos that I took with the Samsung Galaxy 7 I use courtesy of Sprint here in Sioux Falls.

I believe it was Centerville Fire Department who took first place in both the Rib and Brisket divisions of the competition. I was a judge, so all we had were numbers to fill in the blanks and then scores to give. The food was awesome and the beer was cold.

Part of the craziness of the 3 day stretch was Saturday night was as perfect of a night as you could ever want. The winds were down, the temperatures were perfect. Then Monday came.

Everyone around the area was talking about the solar eclipse that so many had waited so long for. We didn't see it in Sioux Falls and definitely didn't see it in Feeman, South Dakota. In fact, they saw rain. Lots of rain and hail.

The Menno Fire Department was also at the Rib Cook-Off Competition. They also saw some weather Monday. Check out the photo sent in by Tyler from just east of Menno.

While many across the United States will be talking about the eclipse, here in Sioux Falls and around southeast South Dakota, we'll be talking about the eclipse we didn't see. And the rain and weather we did get!
