BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — A former South Dakota State University student has pleaded guilty to one count of intentionally exposing another person to the virus that causes AIDS.

KJJQ radio reports that 19-year-old Demetrius Colaites admitted not using a condom during consensual sex with another student who did not know Colaites was HIV-positive. Prosecutors dropped other charges against Colaites as part of a plea deal.

Colaites faces up to 15 years in prison when he's sentenced Feb. 25. Brookings County State's Attorney Clyde Calhoon says prosecutors will recommend that Colaites serve six years.
