KENNEBEC - A former clerk of court for Lyman County in southeastern South Dakota has admitted to stealing nearly $1,200 in fines paid by traffic violators.

The Daily Republic newspaper reports that 58-year-old Denise Anderson has pleaded guilty to a grand theft charge. She faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Authorities say Anderson took the money between September 2008 and June 2010, while she was serving as the clerk of court. She was fired in January 2011 and indicted last June.
