Many years ago, I read a tip about removing price tag and jar label glue with peanut butter. My first thought then was "What a waste of good peanut butter!"

But I remembered it, tried it and will use that tip the rest of my life. Not only does it work, but it works really well and you don't need much peanut butter at all.

I wondered what other food items you could used in this way and I found plenty.

So here is a short list:

  1. Ketchup will brighten up any of your copper pots and pans - just put a bit on a soft cloth and rub it on the item and leave it for 5 to 30 minutes and then clean. The acids will remove any tarnish. (I've got a copper coffee pot I'm going to try this on).
  2. Table salt will help remove red wine stains - forget the club soda, just grab the salt and the stain will be easier to remove as the salt helps to absorb the wine.(Good to know, but I'm almost sure I've never spilled a drop!)
  3. Cornmeal can remove fabric grease stains - the next time you're eating something greasy on the couch and spill, grab the cornmeal, cover the stain with it and wait 15 to 20 minutes, then vacuum. The cornmeal should absorb the grease and you can clean the rest of the mess with a good upholstery cleaner. (I guess the next time I'm frying chicken on the couch, I'll used this tip).
  4. Walnuts will help to cover scratches on your furniture - just rub the nut into any scratches you see, run your finger over it to disperse the oil, let it sit for 5 minutes, then buff with a soft cloth and at the very least the scratch will be less noticeable. (I wonder if this would work on my piano bench. When my dog Bella was a puppy she gnawed off one of the corners. Definitely more than a scratch, but less than total destruction).
  5. A can of regular Coke is a good toilet bowl cleaner - simply pour an entire can into your toilet, wait and hour, then scrub, flush and your bowl should be sparkling. (I never drink regular Coke and I wouldn't waste a Diet Coke cleaning the toity).
