Arrest numbers have dropped considerably since alcohol was banned at two Sioux Falls parks.

The alcohol ban took effect at Tower Park and Van Eps Park last Friday, and Captain Richard Miller says since then police have had no calls at Tower Park and four at Van Eps Park.

He says on Monday an officer saw someone drinking at the park, and that person was issued a citation.

Two calls last Friday were intoxicated people who were sent on their way and another person was cited on Friday for being in the park after hours.

Miller calls the drop in arrests "a good start," and he says police hope it continues.

He says some of the people who used the parks may be staying home now, or they might be finding other places to be, but police don't know where.
