SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A fatherhood program for outgoing inmates in South Dakota has lost its federal grant funding.

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota learned this week that it lost its bid for continued funding of the Fatherhood and Families program, which it ran in a partnership with the state Department of Corrections.

The Argus Leader reports that the program offered training on family reintegration for inmates within six months of their release from prison. Its three goals were improving spousal relationships, teaching parenting skills and improving economic stability.

LSS earlier this year applied for funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, but was not among the five fatherhood programs selected nationwide.
