You usually only hear about cycling when the Tour de France is going on or Lance Armstrong is doing something drug-related (which is pretty much never, since he finally admitted to doping).

However, cycling is in the news now, thanks mostly to the the seemingly never-ending selfie trend.

A fan has apologized for taking a selfie with cyclist Marcel Kittel when Kittel collapsed after crossing the finish line during a stage at the Giro d'Italia race in Dublin last weekend.

David McCarthy posted the photo on Instagram, along with the caption, “Kittel collapsed after the line today so instead of giving him a hand up I took a selfie."

McCarthy took a lot of heat for his actions and the photo in question can no longer be found on Instagram, although some other people have posted it:

After the backlash he received, McCarthy apologized with the always popular iPhone letter:

Word has it that Kittel accepted the apology. If only McCarthy could've been there to see the expression on his face and snap an ill-timed photo.
