Family Fun Events Calendar: Things to Do this Weekend

Through September 20, 2015 in Spencer, Iowa.  Grandstand entertainment includes Halestorm on Saturday, September 19 and Little Big Town on Sunday, September 20. There's a midway, Art Barn, entertainment, car racing, truck and tractor pull and more.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 18, 19, 20, 2015 - Walk through an 11-acre life-size corn maze in the shape of a turkey. Open Fridays from 5-9pm, Saturdays Noon-9pm and Sundays Noon-5pm. Located 2 ½ miles east of Harrisburg, then 1 ½ miles south on Highway 11. Admission is $7 adults, 5-10 $5, 4 and under free.

September 18, 19, 20 (Fri, Sat, Sun)…YOGI BEAR CORN MAZE… At Yogi Bear’s JellystonePark, I-90, exit 402. 7 acres of twists, turns and dead ends carved into corn stalks that reach over your head.  Fridays 5-9pm, Saturday Noon-9pm and Sundays 1-5pm. Admission includes access to the area's only jumping pillow.  Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for kids under 12.

Tour the feature home in Valley Springs for $5 with proceeds benefiting the Home Builders Care Foundation.

Saturday, September 19, 2015 - 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Sertoma Park.  Walk to promote the understanding and acceptance of people with Down Syndrome. There will be music, children’s activities, food and fun.

Saturday, September 19, 2015 - 7:00 AM at Howard Wood Field. Participants will climb stairs at Howard Wood Field to remember those who lost their lives at the World Trade Center. There will be a free Sanford Power Junior Firefighter Academy obstacle course, smoke alarm program and car seat inspections and installation.

Saturday, September 19 - Registration at 8:00 AM, shotgun tee off at 9:00 AM at Northern Links Golf Course in Sioux Falls. Cost is $180 per team and includes entry, 9 holes of golf, cart and lunch. Proceeds benefit the Sioux Valley Chapter of Huntington’s Disease Society.

Saturday, September 19, 2015 - 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Washington Pavilion. The Helpline Center will have information on several hands-on service projects, plus booths where residents can discover hundreds of ways to give their time. (For more info call 211)

Saturday, September 19, 2015 - 3:00 PM - 10:00 PM at the Turner County Fairgrounds. A benefit for three of the victims of the Sioux Steel shooting. There will be a silent and live auction, meal and concert featuring "The Remnant" with Rachelle Hope and Good News Reformed Church Praise Band.

Saturday, September 19, 2015 - Silent and live auctions, craft bazaar, bake sale, breakfast and lunch. 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church. The event raises funds for feeding the hungry.

Saturday, September 19 - Sioux Empire Pit Rescue will hold a fall adoption event at Tractor Supply Company in Sioux Falls from 1:00 -3:00 PM. Adoption fees will be reduced to $100 for any online application received the day of the event. 10 adoptable dogs will be at the event for people to meet.

Saturday, September 19  - 8:00 - 11:00 AM at the Lincoln County Airport in Tea. All you can eat pancakes for $6. Free plane rides for kids 8-17 with parent or guardian consent, weather and pilot availability permitting. Guest speaker is Rob Boin. (Gary 605-310-9984)

Saturday, September 19 - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons Program Cente rat 1101 S. Marion Rd. Admission is free. Sample speedstacking, golf with First Tee, cheerleading with the Augustana Spirit Squad, slack linking, an obstacle course and more. Girls can get registered for the year.

Saturday, September 19, 2015 - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Landscape Garden Centers on South Minnesota Ave. Enjoy pulled pork sandwiches, caramel apples and more with proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of the Sioux Empire. Kids will love the Kids Zone with a straw bale maze, inflatables, pumpkin painting, scavenger hunt, carnival games and more. Horse drawn wagon rides from 10-2.

Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20, 2015 - 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Saturday and 12:00 PM -5:00 PM Sunday at Country Apple Orchard on South Minnesota Avenue. Activities include apple picking, homemade pies, horse drawn hayrides, pony rides, train rides, art and craft booth, inflatables, food and fun.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, September 18, 19, 20, 2015 - Friday and Saturday the doors open at 6:00 PM with dinner at 6:30 PM and the show at 8:00 PM. On Sunday, doors open at 5:00 PM with dinner at 5:30 PM and the show at 7:00 PM. Menu includes chicken gumbo and cornbread, Truvy's steak au gratin with juilenned peppers, baked macaroni and red velvet armadillo groom's cake. Sunday, September 20, 2015 - Dinner from 3:30 - 7:00 PM in the parish hall. Vehicle display registration starts at 10:00 AM with no entry fee. There will also be raffles, games and other activities.
