Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls Addresses Ticketing Concerns

If you tried to get tickets to one of the opening concerts at the new Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, you’re in one of two camps: you’re either overjoyed that you were able to score seats to Jason Aldean/Florida Georgia Line, Cher/Pat Benatar, or Eric Church, or frustrated that you’re on the outside looking in after all three shows sold out quickly.

In the days following that trio of sellouts, officials at the events center have been inundated with questions, concerns, and complaints about the ticketing process.

At a Monday afternoon press conference, events center general manager Terry Torkildson tried to provide some additional information about ticketing in the hopes of quieting some of the critics.

Torkildson stressed that the new venue is ushering in a new reality for local concert goers with higher profile acts driving ticket sales to a level Sioux Falls has never seen before. That means even with a bigger building, tickets will sell quicker than they have at the existing arena:

The other issue with ticket sales, according to Torkildson, lies with who really controls the logistics of a show:

One of the biggest complaints the events center received was the ticket pre-sale for the three shows. Torkildson says each pre-sale is different, but everyone who has access to the pre-sale has the same opportunity to get tickets:

Another issue was fans who were unable to buy tickets, only to have others purchase seats later:

Torkildson says he’s been asked about Ticketmaster’s ability to handle high volumes of ticket sales, and whether that affected availability of seats for these three shows:

One thing that does impact the general public’s ability to buy tickets to events is ticket scalping.  That will play a role in ticket sales at the event center, unless something changes in South Dakota law:

Torkildson says what may be bad for people left out in the cold for these three shows is actually a big positive for the new venue going forward:

So what’s his advice on the best way to score tickets for the next big concert at the Denny Sanford Premier Center?
