Eric Church took home Album of the Year at the 2016 CMA Awards for his latest project, Mr. Misunderstood. He beat out fellow nominees Maren Morris (Hero), Keith Urban (Ripcord), Carrie Underwood (Storyteller) and Dierks Bentley (Black) for the honor.

Three-time CMA award-winner Faith Hill took the stage to present the award, honoring Jessi Coulter, who became the first woman to win the CMA Award for Album of the Year 40 years ago. This year's category was comprised of three men and two women, "and it all adds up to 5 of our very best," Hill says.

Eliciting loud support from the crowd after his name was called, Church took the stage to accept his award, with a little help from Hill as she assisted the winner with fixing his bowtie.

"I don't know which is better," Church said with a laugh, "this, or Faith Hill helping me fix my bowtie." He reminisced to last year's show, saying that the album started on the CMA stage and attributed its success to his fans.

"We gave it to the fans first," he praised before thanking his wife and sons for the support. "It's because of the fans that this happened, I love you."

This is Church's second win for CMA Album of the Year. He took home his first trophy in this category in 2012 for Chief. He's also up for Male Vocalist of the Year alongside Bentley, Urban Tim McGraw and Chris Stapleton.
