Perhaps the only way you may be familiar with the name Enos McDonald would be if you or your family grew up in the Greenway, Arkansas area.  After all, that's where the McDonald family hailed from back in the first half of the 20th century.

Of course country music is filled with legendary names, names like Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, Loretta Lynn and so many more.

Enos McDonald is not one of those legendary names.  But a whole lot of people do remember a guy named Skeets McDonald!

Enos and Skeets are one in the same.  Enos earned the nickname as a child by calling them darned mosquito's in Arkansas 'skeeters'.

Skeets didn't stay in Arkansas long, moving with his older brother to Michigan and starting to play and sing in a local band.  World War II interrupted the musical venture (it interrupted a lot of things for a lot of people) and following his service, he started back up in music and that's when things took off.

While Skeets McDonald would have several hit records, stretching from the 1950's right on into and through much of the 1960's (plus having some significant movie roles in films like 'The Glen Miller Story' and 'Hud'), 1952 would be the year that vaulted Skeets McDonald into super stardom.

You see, 1952 was the year of 'Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes'.  How big was it? Well, it not only went to #1 it stayed there, and stayed there and stayed there some more!

'Don't Let The Stars get In Your Eyes' stayed atop the country chart for an incredible 18 weeks!

So whatever happened to Skeets McDonald?

While Skeets had a very successful career right into the 1960's, he died from a heart attack March 31st in 1968 at the too young age of 52.
