GARRETSON, S.D. (AP) — Crews worked for three hours over the weekend to retrieve a car that plunged over a 100-foot cliff and into a creek at Palisades State Park.

The Argus Leader reports the car's owners left it in the wrong gear in a parking lot Saturday, and it rolled off the cliff and into Split Rock Creek. No one was inside, and no one was hurt.

Two towing companies, four search-and-rescue employees, eight Garretson firefighters, two divers and a few state park employees worked to recover the sunken vehicle Sunday.

Divers went into the water and broke side windows in order to tie a tow strap around the top of the car. Officials then hooked the car to a cable from a crane tow truck on a bridge 100 feet above.
