Elvis Week Is Underway

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - As one Elvis Presley fan put it - fans of Elvis go to Graceland to mark the anniversary of his death - but TRUE fans come to Tupelo, Mississippi, where Presley was born.

Hundreds of fans from around the world were in Tupelo for the 36th Fan Appreciation Day at the Elvis Presley Borthplace Park. It's part of what's known as Elvis week, which ends with a candlelight vigil at Presley's mansion, Graceland.

Elvis died on August 16, 1977.
