An incident with a fire alarm in Pennington County will delay South Dakota results from being posted until 8:15 PM Central time in South Dakota.

South Dakota Secretary of State Shantel Krebs says for the most part the election has been going smoothly except for one precinct.

“One of the polling locations in Pennington County there was a fire incident. Everybody had to be evacuated for about 15 minutes. That means that polling location will have to remain open until 7:15 Mountain Time. This will delay results from being released until 8:15 Central Time because state law says I cannot release any results until all West River polls are closed.”

KDLT News talked to Pennington County Auditor Julie Pearson who said the polling location was at South Middle School in Rapid City. One other delay was reported at a precinct in Todd County that did not open until 7:15 AM and hence stayed open the required 12 hours for constituents to vote.
