Gun shots were at the origin of a police call Wednesday morning. Drugs also became a major part of the case.

The incident took place about a block from the campus of the University of Sioux Falls with Sanford Hospital also nearby. Spokesman Lt. Toby Benson says Officers got the call from a neighbor just before 1:00 AM.

“The neighbors reported hearing eight to nine gunshots at three shot intervals. It sounded like shotgun or high-caliber (weapons). Officers on scene located a single shell casing in the driveway and the front door was found to be open.”

Upon entering the home, Benson says that Officers did a quick sweep and found drugs in plain sight and less than cooperative witnesses.

“There wasn’t any injuries or property damage as a result of the gun shots and (police) didn’t find any suspects. However, a couple of the residents were arrested for the marijuana and didn’t seem to know anything about the gun shots.”

Police did not give any information about the people who were arrested or the charges they face.

The incident took place in the 1200 block of W. 23rd Street.
