Dorothy Sings One Of The Most Famous Songs In Movie History
It was a rite of passage through my childhood. It was an annual event, maybe not as big as the 4th of July or Christmas. But it was big.
‘The Wizard of Oz’ would be shown on network television once a year (yes, there was a day when network television mattered!).
I remember looking forward to it with anticipation and truth be told, I think my parent’s did too.
We’d pop up a grocery bag of popcorn (Okay, Dad would pop it up) and gather in the living room of that little farm house. If memory serves correctly (and the older I get, well, sometimes it doesn’t), it would be shown on a weekend night, either Saturday or Sunday.
We would see watching with mouth agape (at least mine was) as Dorothy left Kansas and entered the magical, mystical world of Oz.
It wasn’t until years later that I even realized that actors played multiple parts. I was too enthralled with the magic of the movie. Hey, the horse of a different color was pretty cool!
I still love the movie when it comes on one of the cable channels. It’s kind of like ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’. One of those movies I can watch over and over and over.
I wish Dad was still around to pop up that popcorn.
