(AP) - Dolly Parton, Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris are among the musicians who will recreate the recordings credited with launching country music.

"Orthophonic Joy: The 1927 Bristol Sessions Revisited" also features Marty Stuart, Steve Martin and Ashley Monroe.

They will recreate 16 songs from the original sessions, which showcased Jimmy Rodgers and the Carter Family. Johnny Cash once called the sessions "the single most important event in the history of country music." The album comes out in October.

The Smithsonian Institution will also open The Birthplace of Country Music Museum in the twin cities of Bristol, Tennessee and Bristol, Virginia, on August 2.
