It’s not an Oscar, Emmy or CLIO, but the South Dakota Department of Tourism picked up an award for their efforts.

The U.S. Travel Association bestowed a Mercury Award to the South Dakota Bureau for Best Print Advertising Piece. The winning concept brought a nostalgic feel of family travel in the form of a vintage-style newspaper insert.

The award was presented during the annual Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations (ESTO) Conference held last week in Louisville, Kentucky.

In a press release, Secretary of Tourism Jim Hagen shared his gratitude for his crew’s success.  “When considering the competition from our peers in tourism offices across the country, we are incredibly honored to have received this award.  Our team, working alongside the team at Lawrence & Schiller, puts a lot of time and energy into the work we do, and it’s both gratifying and humbling to be recognized for that effort.”

The annual Mercury Awards recognize state tourism offices and destination marketing organizations for excellence and creative accomplishment in tourism marketing and promotion.

ESTO is the premier national conference which brings together travel professionals from the local, state and regional levels to share expertise and participate in educational activities.
