ARMOUR, S.D. (AP) - DNA testing is being done on hairs taken from the scene of a murder 28 years ago in the South Dakota town of Delmont.

Convicted murderer Lewis Ashker requested the testing, which will be done at an Arizona lab over the next three months. It's not clear what Ashker hopes the testing will accomplish, though he has proclaimed his innocence in a letter to The Daily Republic newspaper.

Ashker and another man were sentenced to life in prison for killing Jerry Plihal in June 1985 while trying to steal his gun collection.
