I remember as a kid growing up on a farm near Leota, Minnesota, we would get one baseball game on TV each week.  Yes, just one, on Saturday afternoon.

I know, I know, I'm old.

Anyway, the network would pick out what they thought was the best game that week, usually involving New York or Los Angeles as I remember.  And the announcers?

Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese.  Both Hall of Fame players and just plain old fun to listen to.

I've read stories in the years since that teacher's would be enraged at the way Dizzy would, well....butcher the English language.  But I'll say this...the man knew baseball.

And why not?  Dizzy Dean was one of the greatest pitcher's in baseball history, a member of the fable 'Gashouse Gang' St. Louis Cardinals of the 1930's.

Wouldn't it be great if baseball could find another personality that was both a great player and a great character?
