A recent study sponsored by the World Health Organization and the World Bank found major depression to be the leading cause of disability in the United States.

Author and Motivational Speaker Carol Kivler knows that for a fact!

First diagnosed with a mental illness in 1990, Carol suffers from periodic acute bouts of medication-resistant depression, responsive only to ECT (electroconvulsive therapy).  Since 1990, Carol has experienced both long periods of recovery and four acute episodes of depression, each time requiring hospitalization and additional ECT treatments.  For Carol, ECT has become her "ladder out of the depression pit" for which he is truly grateful.

During this week's "I Love Life" series Carol Kivler shares her story in hopes it will benefit others who are battling various forms of depression.

"I Love Life" airs daily on KXRB Radio at 12:50p.m.
