DakotAbilities has announced a fundraising campaign, endorsed by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce to expand to a new location and continue with the growing needs those with varying levels of abilities and disabilities.

Their recent letter shares the news:

DakotAbilities, in future years, will be called upon to provide services and programs to individuals who come to us from across the state and region. Individuals who currently live in their private homes, in nursing homes, or receiving programs and services from other providers are choosing to move to Sioux Falls and DakotAbilities because of increased opportunities.

The vision for the much needed Longfellow Center is one that will preserve the history of one of the oldest elementary schools located in central Sioux Falls while continuing to serve as a place of learning and opportunity. The facility will be bustling with daytime activities supporting the mission of “supporting independence, choice and access to an inclusive community” while remaining a fixture in the neighborhood that surrounds it.

The Project:

  • DakotAbilities made a commitment to purchase Longfellow Elementary from the Sioux Falls School District and will take possession of the property on June 1, 2015.
  • Funds are needed to re-purpose space and add handicap-accessible renovations inside Longfellow for DakotAbilities Day Services.
  • It allows DakotAbilities to combine multiple sites and still leave room for future growth.

DakotAbilities invites you to visit their website and see how you can partner with their campaign.
