Crop Report For South Dakota Shows Corn Harvest Lagging

Dry conditions across much of South Dakota over the past week have aided farmers planting winter wheat and harvesting row crops.

The Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report that 90 percent of the state's winter wheat crop is in the ground, and more than half of it has emerged.

The harvest of soybeans is about equal to the average pace, but the harvest of corn, sorghum and sunflowers in South Dakota remains well behind the average.

Pasture and range conditions are rated 67 percent good to excellent, and stock water supplies are 86 percent adequate to surplus.
