RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A Pennington County commissioner who is a critic of government oversight of septic systems is accused of violating county law by failing to obtain a permit for his system.

The Rapid City Journal reports that 75-year-old Commissioner George Ferebee could face more than 30 days in jail and fines of more than $500 if convicted.

Ferebee declined comment. He has said in the past that his opposition to government regulation of septic systems was the reason he got into politics.

A county permit for a septic system costs $20 and is good for six years.
