MITCHELL - Plans to add an auxiliary gymnasium to Mitchell's Corn Palace have been pushed aside for now.

The Mitchell Daily Republic reports that the council chose none of three options offered by the Next Generation Corn Palace Committee this week.

The council had asked at a prior meeting for an auxiliary gym to be added to plans to compensate for the loss of the gym above the current City Hall, if City Hall is converted to a permanent space for tourism exhibits.

Committee chairman Doug Dailey says the main priority is to improve the visitor experience at the Corn Palace and the area around the facility.

Mayor Ken Tracy suggested keeping the current facility and spending funds on other aspects of the project.
