Before the rain, 12th and Kiwanis was a happy place because of construction progress. Even though the main intersection is open, the project is not fully complete.

Principal Traffic Engineer Heath Hoftiezer says there’s about two to three weeks needed before all five lanes are ready between Kiwanis and Western. Having a fully functioning 12th and Kiwanis Avenue will improve traffic flow measurably.

Thursday night’s immense rain could possibility delay construction. However, a projected string of dry days before Labor Day will allow crews to make up for lost time.

A significant chunk of concrete is missing in the turning lane between Lincoln and Garfield Avenues. First the bucket brigade will need to remove the water within the space to prepare.

The end is near. Sioux Falls drivers will be need a bit more patience, but should have sufficient lanes in order to navigate West 12th Street.
