You won't hear the sound of the diving board at the Lennox public swimming pool this summer.

For Lennox residents, the summer of 2017 will go down as the summer they couldn't swim... in the city's public pool that is. And I swear Spaulding, from the movie Caddyshack, had nothing to do with it.

The City of Lennox has been forced to close their public pool for the summer due to issues with the concrete. KDLT News is reporting the city recently conducted testing underneath the pool and discovered the soil make-up, combined with the freeze and thaw cycle, has caused some structural damage. Tests revealed concrete deterioration, shifting and cracking in the pool.

Lennox officials cite Rise Structural Associates’ opinion as the reason for the closure.

According to the KDLT News story, RISE said, “Any concrete rehabilitation work is not justified or recommend without addressing the cause of the distress which is the underlying clay soils. Distress and cracking will likely continue under the present soil conditions.”

Residents who had already purchased swimming lessons and their summer season passes will be getting their money back.

It looks like this summer, the people of Lennox will be forced to take a dip at Wild Water West or the Sioux Falls City Pools a little more frequently than they normally do.
