Classic TV Memory: Father Knows Best

‘Father Knows Best’ was one of television’s biggest hit’s in the 1950′s, running from 1954-1960.

Featuring the lives of the Anderson family, it was what might be called standard 1950′s television fare (and there’s nothing wrong with that!).  Remember, this was back in the day when the whole family could gather round the ol’ black and white and enjoy a show without having to worry if the kids would see something the

No, usually the worst that would happen would be a bike was left in the driveway, someone came home 10 minutes late or there was some sort of misunderstanding.

So whatever happened to the cast of ‘Father Knows Best’?

Well, Dad Jim Anderson was portrayed by actor Robert Young who passed away in 1998 at the age of 91.

Jane Wyatt portrayed Mom Margaret Anderson and passed away in 2006 at the age of 96.

Daughter Betty was played by actress Elinor Donahue and she is 76 years old.

Teenage son Bud was portrayed by actor Billy Gray who recently celebrated his 76th birthday.

And youngest daughter Kathy (Kitten) was played by Lauren Chapin who is now 68 years old.

It really doesn’t seem that long ago does it?  Of course, ‘Father Knows Best’ will live on forever in re-runs.
