The world would be a better place if there were more westerns at the movies and on television.

There, now that that's out of the way...

The greatest western star of all time? It has to be John Wayne, right? Not only a western star but a true American icon. I've heard people say 'Eh, John Wayne wasn't that great of an actor'.

But I don't think they ever said it to his face.

The Duke won his only Best Actor Oscar for his role as Marshall Rooster Cogburn in the 1969 classic 'True Grit'. And for my money, John Wayne is Rooster Cogburn. (I know, I know, the movie was remade in 2010, but I'm sorry Mr. Bridges, I really like your work, but the Duke is Rooster).

One of the movie's co-star's, Glen Campbell, said that he was so bad they had to give John Wayne the Best Actor Oscar! He said it with a smile, because Glen, Kim Darby, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper and the others were all great.

Check out this classic movie trailer for 'True Grit' and you'll see why we were all anxious to get to meet this 'Rooster Cogburn'.
