City of Yankton to Replace Aging Police Radio System
YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — The city of Yankton has decided to replace its aging police radio system.
The Yankton Press and Dakotan reports the current system was considered state-of the-art when it was installed nearly 20 years ago, but it's now outdated and in dire need of replacement.
The Yankton City Commission this past week voted unanimously to begin a multi-phase, $1.2 million effort to replace the 800 MHz trunked radio system. The product line is no longer supported by the manufacturer and will go away at some point.
Options include a stand-alone Association of Public Safety Officials P-25 800 MHz system, joining the South Dakota State Radio System and using cell phone coverage.
A consultant tasked with studying the available options is recommending the P-25 system.
