Circle Yourself Bert – You’re in the Top Ten!

Just like there are good and bad teams in Major League Baseball, there are also good and bad broadcasting teams bringing 150 or so games your way on television each season.

The problem is determining where the play-by-play gang from your favorite team ranks alongside the other 29 out there, because, unless you’re like me and have to Extra Innings package, you don’t get a chance to see the broadcasters say in Toronto or Texas or Tampa.

Luckily, the website Awful Announcing has published the results of its’ poll ranking every Major League Baseball team’s local television broadcasting team, and Minnesota Twins fans? You’re duo of Dick Bremer and Bert Blyleven are among the best in the business.

According to fan voting from all 30 markets, Dick and Bert are a solid 7th overall, getting, on average, a ‘B’ grade from the voters.

The best in the business according to the balloting:  the San Francisco Giants broadcast team of Duane Kuiper (play by play), Jon Miller (play by play), Dave Flemming (play by play), and Mike Krukow (analyst).

The worst?  No shock to Twins fans.  It’s the Chicago White Sox tandem of Ken ‘Hawk’ Harrelson and Steve Stone.  The South Siders were given a failing grade by nearly half of those casting ballots.

In my opinion, this is an anti-Hawk vote and in no way should reflect poorly on Stone, who I think is a solid analyst going all the way back to his days with Harry Carry on Cubs telecasts.
