Christmas of 2016 is going to be a Merry Christmas indeed for Chris Young fans. The country star has announced the upcoming release of a Christmas album.

The singer-songwriter broke the news in a Facebook Live video on Thursday (June 30), direct from the studio with his producer and co-writer, Corey Crowder, and two friends dressed as Santa Claus and an elf.

“We are making a Christmas record,” Young says. “I am so excited. You guys know Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. I have so many Christmas songs I want to do, it was hard to narrow it down to this album.”

Young has been popular in country music circles since he won Nashville Star in 2006, but his career has been on a remarkable upswing since he released his most recent album, I'm Comin' Over, in 2015. The album has scored two back-to-back No. 1 hits with its title song and "Think of You," a duet with Cassadee Pope. Its third single, "Sober Saturday Night," features Vince Gill.

Young has not yet revealed a release date for his Christmas project, but he's clearly excited about it.

“I will definitely have more and more news as we get closer to time," he says. "Obviously, I’m just happy that this year will be the first year that you guys can put an entire Christmas album of mine in the CD player, or on your iPhone, wherever you listen to music. I’m pumped.”
