SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The last remaining piece of a century-old farmstead in northeastern Sioux Falls might soon become multi-story apartment buildings.

A portion of the Lacey Estate for 115 years has survived urban sprawl and now stands amid roads, homes and schools. Lois and Kelly Brown still keep a few horses in a barn on the 6-acre parcel.

The Argus Leader reports the Browns put the land up for sale three years ago. The Browns and the company buying the property want the city to rezone it to make way for an apartment complex with six buildings and up to 143 units.

City planners say the property is an ideal fit for a multi-housing development, but neighbors aren't so pleased. They worry about the effects of hundreds of additional residents on traffic.
