IPSWICH, S.D. (AP) — A century-old school associated with the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich is slated for closure.

The American News reports that the parish council last month decided to suspend classes at the school, which had only about 20 students at the end of the school year.

The final decision rests with Bishop Paul Swain of the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls. Diocese schools director Katie Mellor says the preschool part of the Ipswich school might remain open. It's not known when Swain will decide.

The nearest Catholic school to Ipswich is in Aberdeen, about 25 miles away.
