Turnovers and one man’s ability to score went a long way toward a Delaware 118-110 win over Sioux Falls on Friday night at the Sanford Pentagon.

The turnovers component probably held more sway in the outcome. Sioux Falls (18-14) committed a season high 23 which translated to 38 points for the visiting 87ers (14-19). Meanwhile the Skyforce only converted 21 points off 18 miscues.

As the facilitator, Larry Drew II felt he needed to shoulder the burden of taking care of the rock. “I’m really taking it upon myself to lead. If I go out there and I’m lackadaisical with the ball (my teammates) follow suit.” Drew II specifically points to the crucial stretch of the game in the second quarter when Delaware capitalized and caused a spark. “I had a couple turnovers in a one or two minute stretch when we were up 12 points and right after that they made their run. It carries over to the defensive end, too by picking up cheap fouls and taking me out of my rhythm.”

Drew II eventually did foul out late in the contest with 5 points and 10 assists to his credit. It’s the 14th time this season that the former UCLA Bruin has logged a double-digit assist tally. However Drew II makes no bones about what needs to happen for a turnaround for tomorrow night’s game. “What did go wrong was so blatant that it’s something we can fix.”

There was some right for the night as Delaware’s Sean Kilpatrick went 13-14 from the floor, hitting all 5 from downtown for a season-high 33 points. When a guy doesn’t miss, it’s worth a look on the video below. D.J. Seeley mustered 20 points and 11 assists for second billing.

Scotty Hopson led Sioux Falls with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists plus Shawn Jones followed with 16 points. Andre Dawkins contributed  15 points while Khem Birch logged a double-double of 10 points, 11 rebounds. The two teams will be back at it on Saturday with a chance to draw over 3,000 fans on back-to-back nights against Delaware.

Scotty Hopson's night is worth a look, too.
