In celebration of our city's diversity, an event is being planned next year that was inspired by the mural in Meldrum Park, The World Comes to Whittier.

Called The Mural Speaks! Project, it's the idea of writer Ben Miller. He wants to have a short poem read in all the languages spoken in Sioux Falls at an event in 2016.

To make that happen, organizers are looking for people who can translate the poem. You can volunteer to translate or read William Carlos Williams’ short poem The Red Wheelbarrow.

The poem reads:

So much depends upon

a red wheel barrow

glazed with rain water

beside the white chickens.

If you would like to translate the poem into another language or read it during next year’s event, please contact Colleen Moran, Assistant City Attorney, at 605-367-8745 or cmoran@siouxfalls.org.
