STURGIS, S.D. (AP) — Buffalo Chip Campground officials have pulled their request to put in a large electronic billboard that would have required special approval from the Meade County Commission.

The Rapid City Journal reports that the Buffalo Chip was looking for a sign double the height and square footage typically allowed.

Spokesperson Nyla Griffith says the campground wouldn't have been able to get the billboard finished for this year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Campground owner Rod Woodruff had wanted to put up a 520-square-foot billboard that would have been 50 feet above the road. The limit for a typical billboard is 240 square feet and 25 feet tall.
