Bruce Robison Hospitalized With Typhus, Postpones Upcoming Concerts

Bruce Robison has been forced to postpone a some of his upcoming concerts after being hospitalized with typhus. The Americana singer-songwriter has been dealing with a series of health issues since mid-May but is hoping to be back out on the road soon.

On Monday (June 5), Robison's team shared a press release explaining that the artist "was admitted to the hospital near his home in Austin, [Texas], several weeks ago and diagnosed with pneumonia as well as a bacterial infection." A May 27 Facebook post from Robison's sister, singer-songwriter Robyn Ludwick, reveals that Robison, at that time, had been in the hospital for five days and was "still very sick in the hospital and slowly improving from typhus, which has caused pretty severe complications to his liver, kidneys and immune system."

Typhus, according to HealthLine.com, is "caused by an infection with the Rickettsia bacteria," which is transmitted by fleas, ticks, lice and mites. Per the site, when untreated, typhus "can lead to serious complications, and it’s potentially fatal."

"Robison is now at home recovering," the press release sates, "but regrettably is not yet able to resume touring."

According to Facebook posts from May 17 and 18, Robison postponed concerts in Amarillo, Texas (May 18); Lubbock, Texas (May 19); and Alpine, Texas (May 20), due to what he thought was the flu. However, on May 23, Robison's management team shared on Facebook that the singer had come down with penumonia; at that time, Robison canceled two more upcoming concerts.

As of June 5, Robison is planning to resume his touring schedule on June 16. Shows in Decatur, Ga.; Charlotte, N.C.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; and more have been postponed, the press release reports, in addition to the previously postponed dates. All shows will be rescheduled, though ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase. Robison's 2017 tour dates are in support of his newest album, Bruce Robison & the Back Porch Band; he released the project on April 28.

"Bruce has worked his a-- off to prepare for the release of his brand-new album. You can't imagine what a blow and setback it is for him to not be onstage for his fans right now," Ludwick's Facebook post says. "Do me a favor and buy his record, download a song or three and or buy tickets to a show this summer. His new album deserves it. And so does he."
