ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — A Claremont man with ties to a woman who died while in custody at the Brown County Jail has pleaded guilty to felony aggravated eluding in Roberts County and been sentenced to serve 1-1/2 years in prison.

The American News reports that the charge was levied against 25-year-old Wayne Pahl after a July 3 police chase on Interstate 29.

Twenty-four-year-old Sarah Lee Circle Bear also was in the vehicle. After she and Pahl were arrested she was taken to the Brown County Jail because she was wanted on a bond violation. She died two days later.

Medical examiners determined that she overdosed on methamphetamine. A state investigation determined that the jail acted appropriately in its care of Circle Bear.

Pahl still faces charges in Brown County.
