Brown County Commission Mulls Hard Alcohol Sales at Rodeo

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — The Brown County Commission is considering a plan to serve liquor at the Dacotah Stampede Rodeo at the Brown County Fair.

The Aberdeen American News reports that Fair Manger Derek Ricci put forward a proposal that would allow hard alcohol sales in a restricted area during the rodeo.

Commissioners are expected to vote on the plan soon. But at a recent commission meeting, two commissioners and law enforcement had reservations.

Brown County Chief Deputy Tom Schmitt says adding an additional alcohol sale location would make security more difficult. He says the office is "absolutely" opposed to it.

Ricci says increased income from the liquor sales could mean thousands of additional dollars. He says the drinks would be contained in a special area and that revelers could only get a limited number of drink tickets.
