BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — An unusual subject drew the most drama among the topics on the agenda at this week's Brookings City Council meeting — asphalt or concrete.

The subject was mundane — awarding contracts for trails and parking lots for the new Dakota Nature Park.

But included in the discussion was the city's "shop at home" philosophy and the question of which material is better for the project.

The Brookings Register reports that the council ultimately gave the trails work to Bowes Construction for asphalt and the concrete driveway and parking lots to Clark Drew Construction — both of Brookings.
