BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — A hair salon owner in Brookings has a knack for raising money for people in need.

Reflections Hair Designs owner Tonya Beynon estimates that she, her staff, family and friends have worked to pull together about 30 fundraisers in the past three years. She tells The Brookings Register that her fundraisers include big events with 500 people and auctioning off gift baskets at her salon.

Beynon says she opened her salon in 2011 because she couldn't give out haircuts at a corporate-owned salon where she used to work. Now, she gives a free haircut to any deploying member of the military.

The salon has also offered discounts for bringing in items for the animal shelter. Beynon says any gratitude for efforts should go to volunteers and others who donate.
