“You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.”  That’s what the City of Sioux Falls has determined by affirming the Park and Recreation Board’s decision to ban alcohol in Tower and Van Eps Parks.

In the Council meeting on Tuesday night, seven of the eight commissioners voted to approve an ordinance that would expand the list of dry Sioux Falls parks.  The only dissenting vote came from Councilor Greg Jamison.

Van Eps Park had its share of bad publicity over the past five months.  The City even contracted to bring in portable toilets as an aid to the conditions.  Unfortunately, the best laid plans in that situation were foiled by park-goers drinking the hand sanitizer because it contained alcohol.

Although the ban has been approved by the council, the measure will not become official until October 3rd.   The other parks that have alcohol restrictions include:  Whittier, McKennan, Tuthill, Tomar, Heritage, Lyon, Kenny Anderson, Pasley, Arrowhead, Veterans' Memorial Park, Falls Park, except where approved by council, and Fawick Park, except where approved by council.
