Bond Set for Colorado Man in South Dakota Hotel Shooting

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — A judge has set bond at $50,000 cash for a Colorado man facing charges in a shooting at a hotel in the northern South Dakota city of Aberdeen.

Nineteen-year-old Jordan Mercure, of Fort Collins, Colorado, faces a felony aggravated assault charge and several misdemeanors in the early Saturday shooting at the Hampton Inn and Suites.

Mercure is accused of shooting Curtis Paysen in the head during an alcohol-fueled argument. A spokeswoman for Avera Health in Sioux Falls told the American News that Paysen has been upgraded from critical to good condition.

Mercure appeared in court Monday with his attorney but did not enter a plea. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of aggravated assault.

Mercure and Paysen attended high school together in Aberdeen.
