Bond Kept at $200K for Suspect in Fatal Lake Andes Crash

LAKE ANDES, S.D. (AP) — A judge is keeping bond at $200,000 for a man charged with vehicular homicide in a crash in southeastern South Dakota that killed two people.

Twenty-eight-year-old Ronald Fischer, of Lake Andes, made his first court appearance Wednesday after turning himself in Tuesday. Judge Bruce Anderson said he would appoint a public defender. No further court dates were set.

Fischer is charged in the July 8 deaths of two U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service researchers. Authorities say 46-year-old Robert Klumb, of Pierre, and 25-year-old Maegen Spindler, of Cazenovia, N.Y., were struck and killed in a motel parking lot.

Fischer is accused of driving drunk and with marijuana in his system, and running a stop sign.

The Argus Leader reports that Fischer has previous drug-, alcohol- and driving offense convictions.
