Bond at $50K for Sioux Falls Hit-and-Run Suspect

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Bond has been set at $50,000 cash for a man accused of critically injuring a woman in a hit-and-run in Sioux Falls.

Thirty-three-year-old Mark Morris faces a felony hit-and-run charge that carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison and $4,000 in fines.

Defense attorney Katie Dunn on Wednesday unsuccessfully asked Judge John Schlimgen for a lesser bond that would give Morris a more realistic chance at freedom while his case is pending. Prosecutor Ed Angel said Morris is a flight risk because his parents live in Ecuador and because authorities will consider a manslaughter charge should 58-year-old Reva Rezac die from her injuries.

Authorities allege that Morris was driving a car that struck Rezac on Monday, then sped off.
