Blake Shelton doesn't often speak publicly about his divorce from his first wife, but the singer opened up in a recent interview with '60 Minutes.'

'The Voice' coach was the youngest of three children raised by divorced parents, and he idolized his older brother, Richie. Tragically, Richie was killed in a car accident when Shelton was just 14 years old. Shelton's father gave him some hard advice afterward.

"He said, 'Look, you will never, ever get over this happening,'" the country star recalls. "'You're just gonna have to learn to get used to it.' He was absolutely right." The song 'Over You,' sung by his wife, is about the death of his brother.

As painful as that tragedy was, Shelton admits that it was just as difficult for him to make the decision to end his first marriage to Kaynette Williams. The couple married in 2003 and divorced in 2006.

"That was easily the toughest thing that I've been through," the 'Neon Light' singer reveals. "I put my divorce up there with my brother's death. That was a tough, tough call to make."

Shelton met Miranda Lambert during a performance in 2005, and they married in 2011. The country couple have been the subject of endless tabloid speculation since, which makes them want to guard their private life that much more closely.

"We try so hard to keep people's focus on what we do and not on our marriage. And it's almost impossible to do that," Shelton admits. "Why open that door any further than it already is open? All we've got left that's private is she and I, and our home, and we want to keep it that way."
