There's a new scam going around that you need to be aware of, according to Jessie Schmidt of the Better Business Bureau in Sioux Falls.

"A really legitimate company, Publisher's Clearing House, has been giving away prizes for decades. Now there's a big deal going on," explained Schmidt. "People are receiving letters or phone calls saying they're from Publisher's Clearing House. The caller says you've won the big prize. But, you need to pay some taxes first."

Schmidt says Publisher's Clearing House never contacts winners on the phone.

"Representatives of the company will not call you. They simply arrive at your house with the good news of being a winner. Just like in their commercials. Winners are not notified prior to arriving at their home. You do not have to pay taxes to receive the prize. We tell people all the time - if you have to pay money to win any money or find a job - it's not worthwhile. You're looking at being a victim of a scam."

Jessie Schmidt says the scam artists want you to get a green dot money pack and load money on there. They will ask you for the card number. If you do what they say, you are giving access to your funds.
