"It seemed like a good idea... at the time," is a statement that many people may utter after looking back at some of their tattoos. It can happen to anyone.

You might get the name of your "soulmate" tattooed on your arm (only to have the relationship end just months after the new ink heals), or you may even go as far as getting the image of a possible presidential candidate inked on your arm - just to show your support - and later find out that he "wasn't all he was cracked up to be."

Some people may choose to cover up the regrettable ink with another tattoo, while others may decide to take the more painful and expensive route of laser tattoo removal. But those options could now be choices of the past, thanks to a team of chemical and biomolecular engineering students at NYU.

Five New York University students have developed a new kind of tattoo ink that can actually be erased. The unique, erasable tattoo ink called Ephemeral, allows someone with a regrettable tattoo decision the chance to simply "erase it" - days, weeks, months or even a year after the design has been placed.

Not pleased with the design you thought you could live with forever? Simply revisit the tattoo shop, have the artist apply the removal solution and you are on your way to a vanishing tattoo.

Having a tattoo removed can be expensive, painful and even scar. But because of the erasable tattoo ink invented by five NYU students, tattoos could become even more popular, especially with people that may have not considered getting one before. Because after all, if you don't like it, you can now just erase it!
