Augustana Women Vanquish Concordia-St. Paul While Men Fall To Minnesota State
And then there was one. The Augustana Vikings Women’s Basketball team finally got the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul in a 55-43 defensive struggle on Friday night. For the Augustana Men it was not so sweet as Minnesota State rode away for the 87-66 victory at the NSIC/Sanford Health Conference Tournament.
With the men’s team holding a solid mark in the NCAA Central Region rankings, Augstana (21-8) will learn on Sunday who and where they will play next. Daniel Jansen was top scorer with 17 and Cameron McCaffrey logged 15 points and 6 assists.
Meanwhile Emily Schulte was the catalyst for the Vikings (23-6) with 19 points and Lydia Nelson netted 14 to extend the team’s run at the tournament. All that stands between the Vikings and a tournament title and the NCAA Regional automatic bid is the other team that beat them twice this season: Minnesota State. Tipoff against the Mavericks will be at 3 p.m. in Rochester.
